Black Friday Social Media Playbook for Ecommerce Brands

If you're planning your Black Friday social media strategy in November, you're already too late. The most successful ecommerce brands start building anticipation weeks in advance.
4 Weeks Before: Tease
- Start hinting at deals coming. "Something big is coming this Black Friday - follow us so you don't miss it."
- Build an email list with an early-access offer
- Create a countdown highlight on Instagram Stories
2 Weeks Before: Build
- Reveal categories or product hints without showing full deals
- Share gift guides that feature your products
- Run engagement-boosting content to prime the algorithm
Launch Week: Sell
- Go live to announce deals in real time
- Use urgency: "Only 50 available" or "Ends midnight"
- Post morning, midday, and evening - this is the one week where over-posting is acceptable
- Use Stories for real-time stock updates
After Black Friday: Extend
- Share customer unboxing content and testimonials
- Run a Cyber Monday extension for digital products
- Thank your community and share sales milestones (if comfortable)
The brands that win Black Friday on social media are the ones who treat it as a campaign, not a single post.
